Information about the Live Online Studio Practice Class
A Studio Practice Class is being discussed and designed. We’re hoping to start it in 2026 and run new classes quarterly.
It will be held via Zoom, and facilitated by a mentor experienced in art studio practice. Please let me know via the Contact form if you’d like more details once they become available.
What’s the Studio Practice for Writers class? Inspired by the format and spirit of an artist’s studio practice class, this class will:
- May be small, 6-10 people, and multidisciplinary (writers as well as painters and sculptors, dancers, actors, contemporary artists)
- Be a gentle, safe and supportive space
- Each person will have a project or projects, and goals for their work, although the studio will be focused on process and not outcomes
- Students will be required to set personal goals, participate in weekly critiques and adhere to other self-determined goals stated at the outset (e.g. maintaining a studio journal, or keeping to a self-set writing schedule, or other type of appropriate practice)
- Present work-in-progress and participate in group discussions
- Be a facilitator to hold space, prompt reflection, introduce methologies, facilitate discussion and guide final presentations
- As determined by the group, may involve weekly themes, optional short readings or provocations, emphasis on process and shared growth.
